Freddie Fields, was a Hollywood producer, studio executive and agent who helped found Creative Management Associates, one of the industrys most influential talent agencies in the 1960s and early 70s. In the early 70s Freddie Fields, together with Paul Newman, Barbra Streisand and Sidney Poitier, founded First Artists, an independent production company. (They were later joined by Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman.) Among his clients over the years were Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola, Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Henry Fonda, Steve McQueen, Jack Nicholson, Barbra Streisand, Woody Allen, Judy Garland, Fred Astaire and Jackie Gleason. Most of whom were our clients too. When he wanted a client it was well known Fields would go after them. After Mr. Fields helped start C.M.A., according to news accounts, he stopped at nothing to attract the finest talent to his stable. Determined to sign James Coburn away from another agency, Fields walked into his meeting with Coburn and took off his jacket to reveal a holstered gun, Daily Variety reported in 1997, describing an incident from the 1960s. The tactic was a joke, but it got the job done. Coburn signed with C.M.A." With the same enthusiasm his household help ran his homes, which ISA staffed for many years.
